THE STORY

Go chase the sun.

That’s the whole brief. The name comes from that stretch of late afternoon when the light goes gold and the day feels longer than it has any right to be. This wine is built for that hour — bright, mineral, gone faster than you meant it to be.

Wilson Vineyard sits in Clarksburg, the corner of California most people drive past on the way to Napa. Sea-level vineyards, clay-loam soils, and a cold afternoon wind off the Sacramento Delta that drops temperatures 40°F between day and night. The grapes ripen slow. The acid stays electric.

The clone matters here. Clone 982 is a French selection from the Loire Valley — Anjou country, the same region that produces the great dry Chenins of Savennières. Most American Chenin is from older UC Davis material planted for bulk wine in the 1970s. This isn’t that wine. Crack it open, lean into the light, and let the moment be yours.

TASTING NOTES

Lemon peel, green apple, white blossom up front. Then peach and tangerine sneaking through underneath. No oak means nothing softens — the minerality stays sharp, the acid stays electric. The finish lingers the way the last hour of light lingers in summer, when nobody at the table wants to be the one to suggest going inside. Open it before the sun’s done. You’ll know when.

VINEYARD + WINEMAKING

Wilson Vineyard sits at sea level in the Clarksburg AVA, where cold afternoon wind off the Sacramento Delta drops temperatures up to 40°F between day and night. That swing locks in natural acidity while flavor develops fully. Clay-loam soils add mineral depth. Clarksburg has quietly become California’s Chenin capital — and this is one of the reasons why.

The clone matters. Clone 982 is a French ENTAV-certified selection from the Maine-et-Loire department in the Loire Valley — entered into UC Davis Foundation Plant Services in 2004, brought over specifically to make serious dry Chenin. Most American Chenin Blanc comes from older 1970s plant material planted for bulk wine. This isn’t that.

Hand-harvested. Fermented and aged in 100% stainless steel.

Find the most frequently asked questions below.
  • Each wine is a one-and-done drop — typically 40–120 cases total — and when it sells out, it disappears forever. No reruns. No mass production. Just Northern California vineyards, bottled in micro-lots.

  • Every wine is dry, fresh, food-friendly, and built for real life — not a cellar (although our reds do get better with age). Albariño and Chenin are crisp and zesty; the rosé is vibrant and bold; the reds are structured but balanced, never over-extracted or overly oaked.

  • We source from small, thoughtfully farmed vineyards across Northern California — Clarksburg, Amador, Sierra Foothills, Calistoga — and work with growers who prioritize organic and responsible practices. Everything is single-vineyard, single-vintage, picked for freshness, fermented clean, and made with as little intervention as possible.

  • Half Full was born from a decade of garage winemaking and one stubborn idea: optimism is something you make, not something you wait for. We bottle single-vineyard wines with a point of view — design-forward, story-first, and rooted in Northern California. Honest wines. No pretense. Made for people who want something they can feel, not just taste.
